Creating powerful shifts to help you move into greater alignment and connection with your true self.

Who Am I?

I’m Kathy Barrett…..

How did I get here?

Equus Coaching came to me when I was working in a career that was driven by a desire to make a lot of money. What’s wrong with that you ask? Everything about it went against my true nature.

Deep down I knew what I was doing wasn’t what I was meant to do; but who leaves a high-paying job just because you’re not happy? Just gut it out for the money, right?

Our culture tells us to work hard, make a lot of money and eventually, you will retire and then you can do what you love. I see now that I was so disconnected from the things that really brought me joy and real connection.

As so often happens when you are doing something that doesn’t align with your authentic self, cracks begin to show, and then it gets to a point you can no longer keep doing what you're doing without sacrificing your mental and physical health. I battled anxiety and depression on and off for years. I had no idea what I wanted to do next, but I knew I had to do something different.

On the advice of a therapist, I registered in Martha Beck’s Life Coach training. Everything about it felt like home…..somewhere I should have always been. My inner compass was pointing due north and I felt it to my core. During my coach training, I went to a workshop with Koelle Simpson and saw her powerful work incorporating horses and life coaching. I experienced a huge shift within me and instinctively knew it was something I had to be a part of. I enrolled in the Koelle Institute for Equus Coaching® in 2019 and became a certified Equus Life Coach in 2020.

Both of my parents went through extensive battles with cancer over many years. Having the opportunity to help care for them was such an honor and a gift. It just reinforced that I needed to be more connected to myself so I could help others

For the last 10 years, I have been volunteering for several organizations and I see firsthand how caregivers invest so much of their energy, time, and love. It’s a beautiful show of compassion. I remember how easy it is to lose yourself while tending to others. How can you continue to give to others what you don’t have for yourself?

I know how it happens, how it feels, and how to find yourself again. That’s why I do what I do because I want to give you the tools to find yourself, too.

Lucky, the amazing horse
